Wow.  A bunch of great kids DVDs were released today:

• Baby Einstein: World Music  Songs and music from around the world for Baby Einstein fans.
• California Dreams  G-rated Saturday morning sitcom from the 1990s.  Some young moms may remember this fondly.  Some old moms (like me) may not remember it at all.
• Goosebumps: Return of the Mummy  TV show based on the award-winning book series by R.L. Stine.  A mummy awakens in an Egyptian pyramid.
• Goosebumps: The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight  Another episode from the Goosebumps TV series.  Evil scarecrows inhabit Grandma and Grandpa’s farm.
• Handy Manny: Manny’s Green Team  Five new episodes not yet featured on the Playhouse Disney show.  Handy Manny and friends fix things and are environmentally friendly.
• Hannah Montana: Keeping It Real  Five episodes from the Disney Channel series.  Very slowly, I have become a Miley Cyrus fan.
• Pokemon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior  The latest in the Pokemon movie series.  My youngest two kids are into Pokemon and watch these on Cartoon Network.
• Schoolhouse Rock! Earth  Schoolhouse Rock goes green.  I am a big fan of Schoolhouse Rock.  My all-time favorite is Interplanet Janet.  (She’s a galaxy girl.)
• Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Big Journey  Strawberry Shortcake and her sweet friends take a road trip around the world.

Parents, be aware that Marley & Me was also released today on DVD.  Big red flag - this is not a movie for children.  Marley looks cute on the cover and your kids may want to see it, but many parents have warned me that this PG-rated film is really not appropriate for children.

Some great kids DVDs were released today:

• Bolt  Funny kids movie about a dog who thinks he has superpowers.  My kids saw it in the theatre and loved it.  They definitely recommend the Bolt DVD.
• Lilo & Stitch 2-Disc Big Wave Edition  This 2-disc special edition is a re-release of the 2002 kids movie starring Hawaiian girl Lilo and her little alien pet Stitch.
• Star Wars: The Clone Wars - A Galaxy Divided  DVD includes four episodes of Star Wars Clone Wars, my youngest son’s current favorite TV show.

1. Toy Story 2 (1999)  The gang saves Woody from the toy museum in this best-ever kids movie sequel.
2. A Bug’s Life (1998)  Pixar takes us to the miniature world of bugs.
3. Mulan (1998)  Heroic girl fights in the Chinese army disguised as a man.
4. Anastasia (1997)  Disney-animated story of lost Russian princess’s quest to find her true identity.
5. 101 Dalmations (1996)  The dastardly Cruella De Vil steals those adorable Dalmation pups.
6. Toy Story (1995)  Fantastic kids movie about the life of a boy’s favorite toys, Woody and Buzz Lightyear.
7. Babe (1995)  Inspirational kids movie about the challenges faced by Babe, a shy but heroic little pig.
8. The Lion King (1994)  Animated kids movie about lion cub Simba and his rise to the throne.
9. Homeward Bound (1993)  The incredible journey of three pets traveling home across the Sierra Mountains.
10. Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken (1991)  Inspiring movie of teenage girl who becomes a horse diver.

My daughter and I went to a tea party last weekend - a 5th birthday party for the little girl across the street.  We decided to celebrate this fancy occasion with a fancy birthday present.

I like to give birthday presents with a theme.  I no longer send my husband out to pick up birthday gifts, because he sees nothing wrong with giving a Pokemon toy with a pack of baseball cards (instead of Pokemon cards.)  To me, if you pair two gifts together, they should be related, even if the birthday boy does like baseball cards better.  Because of this irrational obsession, I spend way more time than I should shopping for birthday gifts.

For the tea party birthday girl, I went with a Fancy Nancy theme.  The original Fancy Nancy book, written by Jane O’Connor, introduced us to the young, frilly champion of all things fancy.  There are now several Fancy Nancy storybooks, a stickerbook(!) and a collection of “I Can Read” books that are perfect for a 5 year old.  There are also a variety of extras to help you hit your target gift price:  puzzles, games, a Fancy Nancy doll and of course, lots of accessories.
